Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pink GMT First Impressions

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT combines all of the things that I loved about other SSW models with a handy GMT function. It combines retro style with fun color, especially in this pink colorway. It has just the right amount of color, popping against a black dial. It's like it was made to go with the Men Wear Pink straps.

Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pink GMT Details

The matte black dial features a classic Zodiac logo and script text displaying the model information.

Applied, metal markers are used together with a matching black date disc surrounded by a thin white square.

GMT bezels tend to show day and nighttime hours in contrasting colors. In this case, the daylight hours are in crisp white, while night hours are in bright pink.

Otherwise, the sharp case edges and finishing are standard Zodiac fare.

Wearing the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pink GMT

The SSW GMT is 40mm wide at the bezel, which overhangs the case slightly..

This gives that fun vintage look and also makes it easy to grip. And you'll want to use this bezel, as it has a very nice action. It is easy to turn and features 24 crisp clicks with minimal play between them. Unlike the SSW divers I've reviewed, this bezel is bi-directional, allowing you to quickly display additional time zones.

At 49mm lug-to-lug, it is fairly tall for a 40mm watch. This is thanks to the long, sharp lugs. Luckily they slope down to meet your wrist, making it feel very balanced.

The holes are also closer to the middle of the lugs. This reduces the gap if you decide to wear it with a straight-end strap.

The hands and markers are rectangular. Daytime legibility is quite good due to the contrast between the white and polished silver hands and the black dial. I like the design of the GMT hand because its color makes it easy to spot against the dial and differentiate from the other hands.

Blue Super-LumiNova is used on the Whitecap's hands and the bezel pip (which sits under a K1 crystal bezel insert).

Bracelet and Replacement Straps for the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pink GMT

This Super Sea Wolf uses the same fantastic 5-link bracelet as the Whitecap (but does not come with a bonus rubber strap the Ariel Adam's Aquamarine Dream). The polished center links and brushed outer links give it just the right amount of flash, and it's very comfortable due to the small links being quite flexible.

I'm not typically a fan of butterfly clasps, but this one is quite slim and short making it more comfortable than most. Twin triggers keep it secure, and the integrated cap with an engraved Zodiac logo helps keep it from getting caught on things.

It also has two spring-loaded ends in the clasp like those other watches. Despite this, the clasp is compact. The spring tension is the perfect amount, giving just enough stretch on a hot day or a long flight. It is a more elegant and comfortable solution than something like a bulky Tudor Pelagos clasp. More appropriate for a GMT unlikely to be used while diving. The photos above and below show the stretch on the Whitecap.

Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pink GMT Movement

The SSW Pink is powered by the GMT version of Fossil's "in-house" STP calibers called the 7-20.

It is a caller GMT with an independent 24-hour hand adjusted in one-hour jumps with the crown. It operates at 28,800 beats per hour, has 26 jewels, and 40 hours of power reserve.
