The Grape Jelly Casioak? Casio G-Shock GMA-S2100SK-4AER Watch Review
OK, so some of my friends have started thinking that I'm obsessed with G-Shock Casioaks. You readers might as well, considering how many articles I've written about them.
In reality, I've only kept the blue metal GM2100N-2A and the yellow Bluetooth GAB2100C-9a. My wife, on the other hand, might be the one who is obsessed with them. OK, not really, but it's the only type of watch that she'll wear regularly, and I seem to like buying them for her. Thus, when she sent me an Instagram post with a "heart eyes" emoji of this new clear midsize purple model GMA-S2100SK-4AER, I ended up ordering one for her as a surprise.
Since I've already covered the ins and outs of the Casioak in detail, this review will just focus on the traits of this new range (Casio also released these in clear, green, and smoke colors). I've decided to call this the "Grape Jelly!"
First Impressions
The color and material chosen can totally change the look and feel of what is otherwise the same watch. While the black resin, or especially the rose gold metal versions of these watches are borderline classy, the clear purple model is just plain fun. Because the case and strap have so many facets, and the resin chosen is glossy, it gives the watch quite a pop factor.
The Details
Besides the obvious case material change, the new models have a number of other changes as well.
The buttons are changed to a matte light gray plastic, and the buckle is constructed to match.
The bezel text is filled with white paint to make it legible and make it clear that this is a G-Shock.
The carbon core case inner structure is also somehow colored light gray, rather than the black of the other models.
The dial is also coated in a light metallic purple that Casio describes as "micro-polarized paint to create a mysterious and subtle radiance." The Analog day indicator remains as it uses the same module as the other GMA models.
Like the other models, it uses lumed hands, and also has a bright backlight.
Wearing the Grape Jelly Casioak
This model has the same great wearability as the other models as the dimensions and weight are the same. Just be aware that the clear band has the effect of magnifying any wrist hair that you might have!
Conclusion
I still love these models, and I'm excited that they have gotten my wife wearing a watch, and that Casio has continued releasing more fun colors. Now if only they would produce the perfect Casioak!
