Swatch x Omega Moonswatch Mission to Mercury Watch Review SO33A100

I recently purchased a Swatch x Omega Moonswatch Mission to Mars and discussed why I wanted the Mars version to help make up for big regret. Later I also obtained and reviewed a few other Moonswatch models.

Most recently, a friend visited a Swatch boutique and helped me to obtain a Mission to Mercury. This is the stealthy Moonswatch, and a stark contrast to the other, brighter versions that I've had my hands on.

First Impressions:

It's quite interesting how Swatch has been able to create such a different vibe with each version of the Moonswatch just by changing to colors that correspond to a celestial body.

 

The stealthy Mercury looks similar to the Moon at first glance, but it features a darker gray case, as well as a gray dial (instead of black on the Moon). This is an obvious reference to the planet, as well as the dark gray element Mercury.

 

The Mission to Mercury Details:

All Moonswatch versions have the same dimensions, Unlike the Mars, other variants like this Mission to Mercury feature stick hands without lume for the chronograph subdial hands

Like all other Moonswatches, the Mercury features the Swatch S engraved in the underside of the crystal, similar to the Omega Greek symbol you'd find on a "real" Moonwatch.

Also like an Omega Moonwatch, the Mercury uses a black tachymeter scale.

The subdials, and chapter ring area are also rendered in black, which adds to the stealthy look.

Wearing the Moonswatch Mission to Mercury:

All Moonswatch variants are quite comfortable due to the ergonomic Speedmaster case shape, but also their extremely low weight.

 

The white hour and minute hands on the Mercury stand out against the dark dial, making it one of the more legible versions. The white hour markers are easier to see than on the Mars as well, due to their contrast against the chapter ring.

The lume on all Moonswatches is not extremely bright due to it's smaller surface area, but is legible and easy to read at night. The Mercury is no exception.

The Strap

The Mercury's strap is of the same design as the other Moonswatches, but this time in an appropriate dark gray.

It feels flimsy as the others do, and a bit bulky, but it is otherwise lightweight and comfortable.

I've been wearing it on several StrapHabit straps, and have found black and gray be good colors, as well as white. Gray camo also works really well, as seen with the Ridge Rubber strap below.

The Movement

All versions of the Moonswatch use the same Swatch quartz chronograph movement. And of course, the battery cover on the Mercury features a photo of the planet closest to the sun.

All versions that I have owned have the same text molded into the caseback.

Conclusion:

The Mercury proves the versatility of the Moonswatch platform, and how many fun combinations Swatch can create merely by changing colors. It's the most stealthy, and coolest way to experience the phenomenon of the Moonswatch.

 

I'm curious to see if Swatch will continue to expand the line in the future with real new colors or models (rather than limited editions with gold second hands).
